4d Ultrasound - Prenatal Test Performed to View Live Video of Fetus in Womb |
|
Pregnancy ultrasound is a prenatal test performed on a pregnant woman which results in images of the fetus in the womb, thereby checking on its developments, complications and to check on the pregnant woman’s reproductive organs. It works by interpreting the reflection of the sound waves that forms an image of the fetus. Traditional pregnancy ultrasound has been using the 2D technology. The 2D pregnancy ultrasound is based on the principle of “hearing” the sound waves reflected on a single plane. The process merely involves directing the ultrasound waves down into the fetus which is then reflected back and read as an image. Today, pregnancy ultrasound has advanced to implementing 3D/4D ultrasound. The 3D ultrasound also includes the use of sound waves only here, these waves are projected down at varying angles. The reflected sound waves are then read using highly advanced software by which the fetus’s 3D image results. In a 4D ultrasound, the only difference is that, now, instead of a still image, you can view a video of the fetus present in the womb live. Today, 3D/4D ultrasound is widely applied at various pregnancy centers and more and more mothers are opting for getting a 3D/4D ultrasound performed. For mothers, 4D ultrasounds are fascinating because they get to see their babies. You can capture all of a baby’s emotions like smiling, yawning or scratching its nose while it still is within a womb. Of course, 4D ultrasounds are costlier than either 2D or 3D pregnancy ultrasound owing to the more sophisticated technology that is applied in a 4D ultrasound. For any type of a pregnancy ultrasound, be it a 2D or 3D/4D ultrasound, there is a common procedure that you as a mother have to follow. You must lie down on a bed or a table, and then a pregnancy ultrasound specialist will apply some gel on your belly, and will run a probe on the belly. The gel lubricates as well as helps better sound wave transmission. Using the probe, the doctor can locate the exact location of the fetus, and project the ultrasound waves which are then reflected back giving you an image of the fetus. In a few pregnancy ultrasound cases, the probe can also be inserted within the vagina for getting an ultrasound done. An ultrasound helps detect any problem the fetus might be exhibiting or detecting any complications or problems with the mother’s reproductive organs.
